The Clinical Skills Course discusses some ideas to consider when seeking out an herbal mentor. We have connected some students with herbalist mentors in their area of the country when students needed help finding an herbalist and we happened to know of one in their area. The American Herbalist Guild has a list of herbalists who work as mentors http://www.americanherbalistsguild.com/mentors. Also, tapping into the herbal network in your local area may help you to find a mentor.
In all honesty, many practicing herbalists take multiple training programs before embarking on actual clinical/community practice. This allows for exposure to a diversity of traditions in herbalism, teachers, and teaching styles, as well as the ability to gain more intense training for the aspects of herbalism that are most interesting/resonant for you. For example you might decide to specialize in women's health and seek courses to expand your knowledge in that area, or you might want to focus on Ayurveda and herbalism and seek additional training in that specialized field. Our Clinical Path will give you a very solid foundation from which to pursue a hands-on mentorship opportunity and additional studies.
