You may want to take a look at this helpful post from the Academy blog: https://theherbalacademy.com/weight-to-volume-tinctures/It will give you a great explanation for making weight to volume tinctures. Please also find some examples below!

For a 1:2 tincture you will want 1 part plant material to 2 parts menstruum, so 1 part herb (measured in grams) to 2 parts alcohol (measured in mL). Herbalist Richo Cech talks about making a 1:2 tincture in his book “Making Plant Medicine”. In his example he gives the following measurements.
  • Fresh herb weight: 300 g (total weight of herb used)
  • Menstruum: 600 ml (total volume of liquid added to the herb, composed of: 450 ml grain alcohol + 150 ml water). This is a menstruum with 75% alcohol.

For a 1:5 ratio, you are using 1 part herb for every 5 parts menstruum. Let’s say we have chosen to use 30 g herb, 30 x 5 = 150 mL menstruum.
If you choose to use 60 g herb, for a 1:5 tincture you would use 60 g x 5 = 300 mL menstruum.
If you were creating a 1:4 tincture with 30 g herb, you would use 30 x 4 = 120 mL menstruum.
