The Materia Medica Journal is a spiral bound journal we sell as a companion product to our Materia Medica course. You can learn more about it from our product page, here: https://theherbalacademy.com/product/materia-medica-journal/
To give you a few more details:
In your study of herbalism you will often come across Plant Monographs, or plant profiles. Throughout history and across cultures, herbalists have often kept a journal of the plants they use with a page of information for each. These are typically a visual representation of the plant (an illustration or photograph) with basic information about the plants common names, Latin names, origin, habitat, properties and uses, and further notes. You may have seen historical botanical illustrations similar to this, with the plant illustration and structure and Latin name.
In the Materia Medica course we are guiding you to create your own book of Plant Monographs (called a Materia Medica) by studying 5 plants in depth, and recording your plant information into the monograph format. This will teach you what is important to study and the benefits of learning one plant at a time, in depth.
We designed this spiral bound journal as a companion product to our Materia Medica course so you could record your plant monographs in this notebook. The notebook is formatted to create monographs with a place for your illustration or photos of the plant, and places to fill out each piece of information in the monograph and add your own personal notes about the plant as you learn.
In the Materia Medica course you will only be prompted to study 5 plants in depth, but this journal has spaces for 50 plant profiles, so you can keep adding as you continue learning and all your plant studies will be in one place! It also includes a few charts in the front and back that explains herbal actions, plant identification and properties.
It is not required that you purchase the journal, but if you do decide to take the Materia Medica course we highly recommend upgrading your purchase to the 'Course with Journal' option, so you may study with this valuable tool. This is a perfect companion to the Materia Medica course, but you do not have to be enrolled in the course to purchase and benefit from the Materia Medica Journal - it is a useful tool for all herbalists and course levels - and is available to purchase as a standalone product.
