The following types of bottles/containers are suggested in the Natural Perfumery Course:

  • 1-ounce and/or 2-ounce dark-colored glass bottles
  • 5-mL dark-colored glass bottles
  • Dark-colored bottles with sprayer tops (½-ounce, 2-ounce, and/or 4-ounce)
  • ½-ounce and/or 1-ounce glass roll-on bottles
  • Flat perfume cases (small compacts or pillboxes work well)
  • Quart- and pint-sized glass jars for making infused oils and tinctures

Other suggested supplies:

  • Natural waxed paper
  • Scent strips
  • Glass droppers
  • A dedicated perfumery notebook
  • A protective cover or tray for your work area (stainless steel or enamel)
  • 190-proof alcohol
  • Solubilizer such as Solubol
  • Jojoba oil
  • Vitamin E oil
  • Beeswax pastilles
  • Hydrosol (e.g., rose and/or neroli)

While we don’t recommend purchasing essential oils and other fragrant extracts until you have chosen which of the course recipes you would like to try, here are a handful of commonly used perfumery essential oils that are included in several course recipes:

  • FCF bergamot (Citrus x bergamia) essential oil
  • lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) essential oil
  • patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) essential oil 
  • rose geranium (Pelargonium graveolens var. roseum) essential oil
  • rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis ct. cineole) essential oil 
  • sweet orange (Citrus x sinensis) essential oil
  • Virginia cedarwood (Juniperus virginiana) essential oil
  • vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides) essential oil
  • ylang ylang (Cananga odorata) essential oil
