If you already have an herbal foundation, you may be able to start with the Intermediate herbal Course. To clarify we always recommend students new to herbalism with little to no experience to begin with the Introductory Herbal Course. The courses are designed to be taken sequentially and the information builds cumulatively as you progress. While it may seem from some descriptions that they cover similar material, the Introductory and Intermediate Herbal are very different courses, covering topics of increasing complexity and in increasing depth.
The only potential overlap is a bit of orienting information in the beginning of the Intermediate course to help students with an intermediate level of herbal experience to jump in at this course level. In order for brand new students to get the most out of the Intermediate course it is best to have first gone through the foundational topics covered in the Introductory, whether in their own study or in our Introductory Herbal Course.
To better compare these courses I've included some more descriptions of the topics covered in them below, as well as links to their course outlines so you can compare each lesson included in the courses.
The Introductory Herbal Course is the best place for beginners because it begins with the basics of making herbal preparations , wildcrafting, anatomy, introduces you to many many plants, covers common imbalances for adults and children, and discusses the overarching holistic approach of herbalism. You can preview a sample lesson from the Introductory Herbal Course here and a course outline here.
The Intermediate Herbal Course reviews basic concepts in the first unit and then dives in deeper, working in-depth through body systems and discussing anatomy, physiology, and appropriate herbs—their actions, energetics, indications, and contraindications—and diet and lifestyle support for disharmony and disease in those body systems. The course also includes guidance for herbal formulation and lessons on phytochemistry and herbal support for children. You can view an outline for the Intermediate Herbal Course here.
